Hello, Kevin Brown here…and I’m the Outreach Coordinator for the Graduate Admissions department. My job is to keep track of which conferences and Grad School fairs our admissions counselors will be attending. I fill out the paper work and make sure everyone has enough brochures, pens, etc. One of my other responsibilities is to produce the Open House events both on campus and online.
Our most recent Open House was Friday March 14th and it appeared to have been a success. With about 25 prospective students in attendance along with various guests…our on campus total of visitors was about 35.
Outreach Coordinator Kevin Brown: Open House, continued

The day began with everyone registering and having some Danish, fruit and juice or coffee. Opening up the morning session was Meredith McDill who is the Director of Enrollment Services. Meredith briefly spoke about the great work our Facilities Management department is doing with Recycling, Composting and using “Green” cleaning products. The next speaker was the Dean of Graduate Programs, Marla Solomon, who welcomed the campus visitors and gave a little history of SIT Graduate Institute. This was followed by a power-point presentation explaining the MAT & PIM programs along with Financial Aid. Speakers were Marshall Brewer (MAT), Rebecca Bell (PIM) and Michael Ireland (Financial Aid)
After a brief break our guests attended the following classes:
PIM -International Education, Design Concepts & Evaluation.
PIM – Program Planning & Project Design
PIM – Multicultural Organizational Development
PIM – Policy Advocacy on the Iraq War
MAT – Principles & Practices of Experiential Education
A delicious Lunch was served, and was followed by a campus tour which allowed visitors to see, among many things, the inside of a dorm room…many folks commented on how surprised they were at the size of the single rooms. After the campus tour everyone got to check out the SIT Career Center [also known as the PDRC] (that translates to the place that helps you find a job after you graduate). The Career Center is a fantastic place that will work with you…one on one….to tweak your resume and make it stand out to potential employers. Let’s face it….Grad school costs money and everybody wants to know how their new Graduate degree is going to help them find a job… and begin to pay back their loans.
The post-lunch activities continued with a panel discussion of the PIM and MAT programs. Each of the two panels had representatives of the faculty, current students and alumni. The panels fielded questions and allowed our guests to ask any questions that came to mind.
The end of the day featured a reception in the main dinning room that was an eclectic mix of students, faculty, administrators, alumni and anybody else who wanted to chat. The Student Services department was there with fliers about the upcoming weekend activities…just in case any visitors wanted to extend their Open House and participate in the weekend festivities.
We have an on campus Open House coming up on Friday April 18th and an online…or virtual Open House scheduled for May 7th. If you have any questions about what it is like to be a student at SIT Graduate Institute…you’ll want to make the time to either visit our campus or go online and check things out.
The Virtual Open House (VOH) is designed for folks that can not travel to the campus, but still want to learn about SIT Graduate Institute. This year’s VOH will be a little different from those in the past. We video taped a number of activities from our March 14th Open House and plan to put these online for folks to see. You will be able to go online and see what a campus tour includes. Or perhaps you would want to see what the Financial Aid Director, Michael Ireland, has to say about financial aid packages are like at SIT Graduate Institute. Just go online on May 7th and you can chat live with members of the SIT Graduate Institute.
For more information on either the on-campus Open House or the Virtual Open House go to:

There you can find out more detailed information or register for either event.
Hope to see you on campus or online!
Peace,
KB
